The Original Growl Bass Thread (Official)

Thx man!

I was playing around with something a month ago, I got that type of sound with Carbon or Crome, by useing intence OTT compression. I did it in an odd way though, the first ott with 1 band the next with 2 and the final with 3. the seccond boosted the low end and the final boosted the mids. Tube distortion and or Parabolic shaping can add a nice touch. I want to try some short delay on it and im sure a phaser can add the deep feel to it. And this multiband bitcrusher I found.

Thanks a lot man going to try that ^^

jo what Multiband bitcrusher are you talking about ?

Fam, just use Redux in Ableton

Too bad I dont own Ableton :confused:

Transposing Audio can cause an interesting and similar effect. Just bounce your sounds from midi to audio and fuck with that

True, when you re sample audio the root of the sound will always be the same and the processing will sound more accurate. A cool way I made growl was actually making it and octave or more higher than it should have been. I then pitched that down. So what I had bit-crushed in the high end later became the mids and then the new hi end was noise from OTT.

My laptop is broken I can’t check sorry. Try searching for a freeware one though that’s what I did.

Remember when Barely Alive made that growl tutorial. This is almost the same just with a different pitch and vowel.

iirc this was a tip zomboy gave out in his p2w stream he did

ohh is that stream still out there somewhere? I haven’t seen it :frowning:

sadly tis nowhere to my knowledge

ahh no worries, thanks though haha

from what i was told, some stuff he said was:

transient shape errythang
saturation > compression. said he tries to avoid compression as much as possible, colors the sound badly he said
volume automatin > sidechain
bitcrush ur sub (lol)

ok sick thanks man, I just started using the saturation from ableton more and more and its really dope :smiley:

You’re on the right track, kinda.

OSCILLATORS

2 sine waves
One pitched up an octave (OSC A)
On OSC A, use Bend- on it from about 25% to 60%
Turn off the volume on OSC A
FM OSC B by OSC A. (50% no LFO)

FILTER

Band 24 as the main filter, cutoff from about 30% to 50%
Resonance from 25% to 80%
Drive at 0%
Fat at 100%
Mix at 100%

FX (In this order)

Hyper = 30%, Dimension Expander = 10%
Filter = Band 24 - Cutoff = 25% to 55%, everything else 0%
Distortion = Tube - Drive 100%, Mix = 50%
Phaser = whatever you like here, be original don’t just copy BA.
Compressor = Multiband, adjust to your liking.
EQ = Boost the highs, that’s it.

Afterwards, in Ableton chuck on a Phaser and some Multiband and you’ve got the basic sound down. If you want to do some fancy tricks, go ahead. But this is how to make the original one they used. Very very simple stuff.

ohh dang bro thanks a ton I will try it out quick and see what I can do :smiley:

Yo bro sick tut ! but I got a little question I think I did soemthing wrong (I am also on fl so I dont have the ableton phaser) but here is what I came up with following your steps : https://clyp.it/vpxvvbkc

is that how it is suppose to sound ? if not could you help me to make it sound “right” pls ? would be super cool from u :slight_smile:

yeah I got something very similar

Yo, recreating it following what I have there sounds like this:

https://clyp.it/davlvkqf - Sorry it’s a bit quiet and shit, I was in a bit of a rush.

I dig what you’ve made though, it’s got a Torro Torro vibe to it. You don’t have to shoot for Barely Alive kinda’ stuff, along the way you’ll find something that’s more original.
