Bandrejects everywhere
So I’ve been lurking this thread for a while, and I think I recently made something I’m confident enough to stick on here. I made these growls a few days ago in Serum. https://clyp.it/j5ujelz0
awesome work man that drone is really good you gotta make a track from that dude
coming for you Desembruh
edit:
thats really tight man, the drums fit really well (liking that heavy brostep snare a lot in fact) – howd you make that main high-pitched squeal bass?
Your best one for sure !!
How you achieved it ?
The high pitched squeal is from here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR6Ghj0FVdI if you want to remake it, but I just put my own drums and growls over the original song
@Luke_Solo I don’t want to be too vague, but nothing you won’t read on this thread, it’s super simple post processing chain (really only 4/5 effects) using mostly just Ableton stock effects on a simple patch.
Too Vague…lol
So I tried doing EQ mod to help get them vowel sounds, will post an example soon!
https://clyp.it/fy4023nl How’s this?
https://clyp.it/x1qcalmr and this?
I basically did a simple EQ mod with 2 high peaks and a notch with EQ Eight to give off the vowel kinda movement.
If you want me to explain in depth, just ask me ;3
What do you guys think of this? And any advice?
Nice KTN growl,it sounds maybe too harshy (the resonance of the Wow filter maybe…),eq it ,and add a bass (layered) on it !!
How you achieved it ?
I know this is going to sound vague but SpiderPubes is right. It’s nothing that has been said already.
The only thing I would add is that I make my growls and bouce them to audio so I can just drag them into projects where I need to fill space. Skrillex and Barely Alive use their growls every now and again to keep you listening, waiting for the next “DANK GROWL”
It would be interesting to talk about how people use their growls rather than how to make they because at the end of the day making them is down to experimentation. For every growl I make that I’m proud of there are around 3 growls that just sound like shit.
You couldn’t be more correct with that final statement. Experimentation is one of the main keys to working out how to make growls.(well good sounding ones) aswell as analysing other growls too.
Here’s my processing chain:
Pretty straight forward.
My question “How you achieved it ?” was because… it sounds really “harshy”…just my opinion…
I used OSC A and B. Both are static. I then did a bit of processing in serum itself and that was just a simple distortion + Multi-band compressor set to the OTT setting -> Messing around with different distortion types as well as the mix for them too. I’ll let you experiment with that.
Then I did a simple HP12 and used both filters and modulated them by LFO1 with a curve I liked (also another experimentation you should play around with)
Then that’s pretty much it for the Serum side of things. The rest is actually down to the processing chain I have right there, also note that I have the slide and mono checked to create a vowel movement effect through midi (such as the scary monsters nice sprites growl)
any more questions, feel free to ask.
Exactly this. ^^
Yeah, I know ‘x’ growl uses ‘x’ effect but it sounds shit. Experiment with different parameters and you’ll start to learn what effect they give. :3
and I am cumming 4 u
I’m coming for both of you…
