The Original Growl Bass Thread (Official)

Ya know I actually think they have been taken down. If you would like I could PM you a good playlist of tutorials if you are just getting into sound design.

If you wouldn’t mind, that would be great. I’ve been producing for over a year now but I still can’t figure out the most basic of sounds. I watch a lot of Seamless’s videos, they’re good for neuro and stuff but not really the kind of sounds I want to make (stuff like MurDa/Code: Pandorum, etc).

A little “before and after” demonstration on how FX can drastically change your basses.

great work bro

Distortion is Your friend, like srsly some Code sounds are soooo distorted basicly add distortion than EQ it that way you can shape the sound the way YOU want it to sound

Was playing around for a couple of hours and tried my best to make a wet, vowel-y growl bass. It’s far from perfect but I think it’s coming along nicely.

dang man that’s dope can you give some information on your FX?

Definetly

Started off with a three oscillator massive patch then mapped a bunch of modulation settings to a control surface (I use FL Studio btw) in the mixer.

The first few effects I started with were some distortion plugins: ohmicide, camelcrusher, faturator, sausage fattener. Tweaked those until I had a louder, fuller sound. I also added a plugin called fabfilter volcano 2. It basically puts an automatic filter on your sound and it allows you to add a little bit more modulation to your sound.

Then comes the EQing. I have six parametric EQs(there are not in consecutive order, I have them thrown in after some effects because the vowel sound gets drowned out sometimes) with some of the bands mapped to the control surface knob that also controls the massive patch. The EQing is very very important.

Then I have a vocodex to smooth everything out, make the bass wetter, and also give it a more emphasized vowel sound. I also have a wow filter implemented but it’s not too prominent because it softens the sound too much (which is what happened to my clip, wasn’t supposed to sound that wet and soft)

Finally I finished up with some compression and stereo enhancing.

P.S. sorry for the long post xD

Awesome man thanks for the post, I have seen some of my friends using Volcano 2 but I haven’t used it too much. I will try it out when I get home

so I was fucking around with resampling and that Volcano 2 thingi and made this little Drop: https://www.instagram.com/p/BAIWO7stIXC/?taken-by=vincent_skyes (sorry for shity Instagram Video but I couldnt really export it since I had to go two minutes later)
