I remember you saying. hes a fucking talented guy no doubt! I need to check him out

give me a year or so to go thru my collection
which I’ve only just got access to again,
time to trawl thru old reggae, krautrok, post-punk,
electronica, trip-hop, shoegaze & noise
then give me another year to decide.

meanwhile, off the top of me head
albums from Burning Spear, the Go-Betweens, HTRK, Actress & The Pop Group

pretty sophisticated tbh

hard 2 admit to having sophisticated taste because I’m hardly sophisticated
(“Bonehead” is a well-earned nickname)
but I can honestly say my ear is intrigued by new sounds though they initially strike me as ugly,
even if the new sounds are old (Charlie Christian’s early swing electrified guitar for example)
having thought a bit more, if I had to throw a few more “favourite” albums in
I’d be thinking Mahavishnu Orchestra, Van der Graaf Generator, PiL, The Cure & Hot Chip

which leads me to reflect upon what constitutes a favourite album:
not necessarily one that is played often but may represent a savoured time
or, conversely, may be one that continuously delivers new insights
or signals a change in aesthetic, an evolution of taste, a deeper appreciation
or a sonic artwork so beyond my ken that I just have to shake my head & attribute it to genius.
