I’m just getting into drill and most of them look so small in the vids and basically kids lol

But a lot are kids and badmen at the same time. The gangs often have the youngers doing the attacks on the enemy block because they’re less likely to serve a long sentence if they’re underage.
Still lot of rappers like 17 and under have gotten slapped with long sentences for murder, attempts, GBH or trapping.

But also in a lot of cases the guys rapping in the gang aren’t the same guys doing the bulk of the dirt apparently.
There’s a twisted kind of celebrity culture around drill where the fans are keen to find out and debate who’s real and not. For the rappers it’s a strange balancing act because appearing genuinely “on job” gets you a lot of buzz but at the same time making that known is how you get locked up. It’s a fascinating and kinda grim culture to look at in that way.
What makes UK drill another level from other types of gangster rap before is there’s often zero separation between the branding of the music and the branding of the gang”. Like Chief Keef’s music crew was Glory Boyz Entertainment but streets wise he was affiliated with 300/O Block and those two organizations were very different even though he might shout out both.
But like 7th or OFB are both a music brand and also a gang/syndicate of gangs. Youve even had certain rappers come on the scene as musicians without a specific gang branding then linked with gangs later, which seemingly aids the music career.
