Mainly Envelope2 pitch modulation and setting the pitch shift buttons to go a whole octave up instead of a semitones, then pitch shifting in the right places. That’s how I figured drill 808 slides out anyway. The actual dubstep like wub wub motions I’m less good with.
I’m sure by now some of the big boy producers have it set up in a more elegant way.
Abra Cadabra - On Me is one of those expensively produced drill tunes with some impressive 808 wub wub work too.
Some of the big boy engineers in the scene probably do some tinkering there but i doubt it very much for the normal producers with YouTube type beats pages that supply most of the beats
It’s probably the same as in trap. Some producers make sample packs etc but often even those are just slightly EQd, reverbed and distorted edits of samples that existed already. Fewer but still some fully synthesize 808s or do advanced processing of samples to make their own trademark sounds.
Like the chop snares in drill sample packs now are noticeably processed from the original.
You can layer a slightly distorted sine wave with a kick sample to play at the same time, control of the thump and tone of the sub, makes it sound like an 808 tho it really isn’t, actually. Just my 2 cents.
Just gone through everything in this thread and made a playlist of what i like on Deezer.
Gonna blast it in my car when i get my sound system installed tomorrow can’t wait lol
