I do record mixes occasionally, but I have this thing where when I’m not recording a mix I usually do a great mix, but when I record it it’s usually disappointing train crashes, i dunno I have to be in the right mood to do a good mix I guess. I also need to train my stupid m8s on how to use my recorder so they can record it without me knowing, then I would probably have more success lol.
Planning on doing more mixes soon tho so fingers crossed. Want to do a ~130 mix as I have loads of new stuff in that kind of dub techno type genre

yeah that’s what I should do, my decks are round a friends and I only go there on Friday evenings, so a lot of the time I have new records with me and I usually just start playing the new records just to listen to them, but then I get carried away and just keep playing and forget to start recording - it’s these mixes which turn out good lol

Yeah this, I started recording constantly near enough and now it’s nowhere near as intimidating recording as it used to be

I also want to actually plan mixes like @Hibbie does, cos sometimes I get caught out looking for a particular record while I’m slowly running out of time lol. I just need to spend a day organising shit tbh, I have all my records just vaguely grouped into bpm ranges, and vaguely from new to old, but even that isn’t granular enough, I need another method, like bpm and label or something… i dunno, I just have too many records at this point, it becomes harder to manage lol

Planning is good as well, though I try to switch between planning or just recording whatever otherwise I feel like I struggle a bit to just mix for fun

a good middle ground there is to just prepare a bag of records similar to how you would if you were playing out, like you get a selection of records and a vague idea of what you’re going to play without fully planning your set track by track
