DSF Production Comp: RENEGADE VIRUS

Always thought this goes hard af. Something about capturing that part of history in the most accurate way.

Do it on an Amiga or an E-mu or gtfo lol

So I figured out the key to this one for me is to have a close dnb head friend sit in the room with me while producing and him just randomly saying why my shit sounds bad lmfao

but finally feel like im getting somewhere on this. Man this has been the most challenging sample pack comp for me, I feel like im learning so much

It’s always the ones I think will be easiest that I struggle with the most. I mean I was fully immersed in this scene when it happened, pretty much listened to nothing else, for the comp i curated the most apt samples and listened to a lot of old mixes to get in the headspace…and nada.

Really found this one hard :skull_and_crossbones:

Leaning towards using a tracker.

Damn privileged much lol

I really wish someone would listen to my music and tell me why it sucks lol. Everyone I show my stuff is like ā€œwow very coolā€, could be a new masterwork symphony or wet fart noises

LOL didn’t mean to flex

So I’m starting to get this thing goin on discord where we all jump in a voice channel and then showoff works in progress or new tunes and give feedback or just say what we thought of it.

Not sure what time zone you’re in but we’ve been doing it around 2am GMT on Wednesday since everyone is in the USA but we’d love to have ya join if you’re able. Maybe we can do an odd Saturday or Sunday one here n there so the time would be more realistic for people in Europe.

Nice, joined the group. I don’t really use Discord, but will definitely try and join in on one of those.

You should post in the production thread or something

Nice one

Shit, boiz… let’s be honest. Who’s done already? Who’s barely or totally not started?

Got some slappin little loops and sounds going but not much in the way of arrangement. Forced myself to gain stage samples last night, ugh, like pulling teeth (more than usual anyway.)

Thing is: it’s not that I’m not feeling this one - I am and have been - but the production headspace keeps being elusive, even more than usual. I’d rather make dank m8son memes.

More coffee I guess. :man_shrugging:

Thought I’d be into this one more than I have been tbh. Got most of a track done but my break now sounds like shit.

Tbh, the furthest I’ve gotten is un-zipping the folder. I haven’t even listened to the samples yet.

I’ve been in a weird headspace. I’ve been in a musical headspace but just not a production one.

Mostly been planning on making some hard steppers dub. Listening to a lot of Jah Shaka and others.

The fire is still there somewhere.

This is actually from a previous DSF comp. I don’t think anyone really liked it.

10 days to go…

I’ve been having relationship issues and bad depression to boot so I’ve barely touched this unfortunately  not to mention I’ve been gone on work trips the past 3 out of 3 weeks

Wait… there’s breaks in the pack? I think I’ve been working with the wrong samples… dammit. Only had one pack downloaded on new PC, assumed it was for this compo, but might have been for the last one. It was only called DSF SAMPLE PACK with no indication of which compo it was for, so I blame whoever named it like that.

Anyways, layered and processed some of these samples and bounced new, thicc ones that are more usable, so will prolly make something with these too, outside of the compo.

But also ye, links are broken for sample pack dl, @sleeps maybe you could DM me a working one, and I’ll see if I can get something made for the compo too.

The breaks are in the DRUM folder.

I started a tune yesterday.

Well definitely the wrong one then lol, there are no sub-folders in this one… But I started looking at this tonight, so no biggie really.

Am totally ok if you’re handicapped in this lol.

Forget the breaks, you don’t need em.
