The Original Growl Bass Thread (Official)

But filters? All that stuff is great, but its mainly the filters that I’m having trouble with, mainly getting vowel sounds and movement.

As in highpass/lowpass type-filters? Or do you mean oscillators?

Yes, a filter.

The ones in massive I have no trouble giving the sound movement and vowelly characteristics, but i serum its like they just “slide” through the sound rather than “take hold” of it, they’re not as powerful it seems, sort of hard to explain.

will try the phaser though, me and phasers haven’t gotten along much ever but i’ll give it a shot.

does this dude just sample BA? it sounds too similar, like down to the texture and everything.

honestly ive kind of wondered the same thing. In his defence, he has over a hundred clips uploaded to soundcloud so you can tell this guy is always practicing and you hear the improvement hes made over time. But you never know

Regardless im still wondering how this type of sound is made. As in what type of filtering and in general what type of wavetables or FM is used

There’s no doubt that this was just sampled from BA, this kid’s other clips aren’t even in the same ballpark as this.

Take a basic wave in massive, maybe chuck it thru a filter or two to make it move and then put like, a lot of OTTs on it, a dozen lol. listen to it’s timbre, its that staticy metallic sizzle. Of course, it would need to be refined a bit, but it makes even the simplest of sound quite large.

personally not a fan of this style, but thats how its done more or less.

Serums reverb filter is awesome. You should try that out and automate it.

Well for a nice, wet growl I automate the HP12 filter with the res up, i find the res gives the growl more vowel. Also, the drive and fatness can be automated to boost the attack

The trick is turning down the mixer on the phaser until you can just barely hear it, but it makes a difference

Now add bitcrushing to that first sound and it’ll sound much closer. Not a bad attempt though to be honest.

Thanks man ! i’m a real fan of your work
At 1m14-1m15 (the 2 notes) on your track named" Breaking out"…it sounds like you used the Wow Filter …Am i right ? or is it just the AI wavetable on Massive?

I never use WOW Filter and no, it’s not massive. It’s FM8.

Also, How the fuck did that leak? Who uploaded that track?

Don’t know but this track is amazing man !
The voweling stuff is so nice !!
Eq mod ?

Of course. EQ modulation is almost essential to make something vowel or talk naturally.

@Spitfya You know who, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj4DlMZLKiA . The comments arn’t not too happy either. Someone has done some snooping around.

Daymn son!

@Sinnergy @Zach_Sergeant @SpiderPubes As of what I’ve learned that sound is easy to get one you practice making it. Here is what I know about it

Square saw from Massive
Bandpassing
A form of distorting
Bandpassing a bit again
OTT
EQ
OTT again.

This is even easier with Serum ;D

Just read up on formant synthesis. Combine with effects that you like and practice…

Which bitcrusher do you use? Just ableton’s stock one?
