The Original Growl Bass Thread (Official)

I know what you’re talking about. I think Brig seems to just boost his lows, that’s why they sound so high up in your ears, but the bass is clearly separate from the growls in Pegboard Nerds - Luigi’s Mansion. I prefer a separate bassline, just so I can tweak, eq, and edit that more easily.

Honestly dude, fuck the fruity limiter for sidechaining, I’d personally go for volume shaper for sidechaining…

Here’s a quick video explaining it:

Don’t see no big difference compared to fruity limiter since in it i can adjust the sidechaining all the way down too and adjust the attack and release also, so gonna stick with it myself, now that i have started vocodex audio modulation processing i just have to be more precise about the sidechaining channels since there are several for one sound for example when i am making the slower Dubstep beat and faster DnB style and then if i have a vocodex audio modulation for growls on top of that there are already three sidechains on one mixer channel, but it’s more than easy to spot when it’s screwed up

lol I suck at this

dude that’s awesome, i suck https://clyp.it/0hl541s1
tried adding some talk wah to growl, sounds weird

na dude that’s dope

I have been working on taking my growl then pitching it down then duplicating it and putting a highpass on it and bitcrush the highs like crazy so two basses are playing at once.

lol how the fuck did you get your Growl so talky (wobbly) ? like yours flows so well I alaways “lose control” over my growl (lel) like me growl can only do the “yaarrrrwwwwhhhh” and everytime I try to make him “say” other vowels it just sounds like I would put and LFO on the Volume, so choppy and not flowing like yours I hope you know what I mean

I like the last one sounds cool !

I have to say its pretty cool ! maybe try to add more sharpnes to the high end, also the last “pluck” sound is really cool

Hey man I am glad you like it  I really appreciate it <3 I first started with an FM8 patch Sine wave directly modulated by a soft square, a formant that is being modulate by another sine at a ratio of 3. I take that and run it through the Saturator and through FM8s filter. Its set to a band pass and I modulate the cutoff with a macro. That’s the patch. I take that and Eq it like crazy and modulate it and put phasers distortion reverb and OTT.

This is the bass sound. Just FM8 EQ and compression https://clyp.it/wdpkam4a
All of my vowel movement comes from that and then everything after makes it sound nice

If you are still having troubles I would try just putting a phaser on and modulate the frequency or bring the feedback up and modulate the dry wet, or what ever feels good. Omega once told me he uses a phaser with a lot of poles with no rated modulation and he just plays with the depth till he likes it. Bet it would sound good to modulate the depth with the frequency.

Hope this helps bro

Yeah gotta add some treble and more crunchiness, and by the way i believe that pluckish sound is called drone or something (Gritty Wahp Bass?) don’t know but it was the first sound on Serum for me and mostly i followed this video for making it while learning sound design and how to use Serum so props to this guy and you can maketh thyself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYtGcZgiLCg

now i’m just just trying to design cool chorus here with my morning coffee to my next track Dawn Pt. 2 or how i like to call it “Of a New Day”, i think i already have the full orchestral intro under control, basically done (it’s longer and cooler than on pt. 1) and i designed totally new own sound on Serum for chorus just this morning, it’s after the second FM8 Growl on this:

Edit. sounded horrible at first, slightly better now i guess

do you atumoate the XY controll in FM8 or are you using the Envelopes ?

e: woop nevermind you already told me nvm sry ;D

So how am I doing guys. Any tips?

pretty cool dude I would recommend you to make the sound a bit more Vowely and wide, also try adding some more High end but overall it´s a great sound dude!

Guys btw. are we like 100% sure that Skrillex does not use Vocoders ? I played around today and got this: https://clyp.it/20shd4ci I dont want to say it´s Skrillexy but I like it and it got some Skrillex characteristics (spelling on point :D) to it IMO btw. Ignore the drums I dont even know why they are there

cheers and I didnt really use vocoders on that at all, still trying to push out the vowels more

Yeeahhh bro that’s a dope bass keep working on it.

I took your original https://clyp.it/2pdyiyvs

and I put a ton of OTTs on it distortion and 3 different filters on it. Then I froze it, converted to audio, then added some more phasing and compression with notch filtering. I exported it again and pitched it down and did more distortion and EQing and I got this

So yeah dude your bass sound is amazing and you can do a lot with it just keep messing around
