Tuna - The Legend Continues

feedback 2.0:

@Sarbjeet_Jagdev i like your bass/beats combo, i feel like you have all the elements to turn this into a full track, but should rework the arrangement, like let the tension build longer before dropping that stabby synth. use incidentals to add variety, etc. also not sure if it’s the quality of the vocal sample in the first place, but it doesn’t sit right in that mix imo.

@BudSpencertron better without the speak n spell - ish vocal samples, i don’t have the original to compare but i think you removed a section i liked where the main melody was played with another instrument, right after the vocal samples that said “(something something) computer”

i already have two submissions from knobgoblin and cyclopian, will wait for others and post the tunas later today

@knobgoblin whoa, thats dark as fuck. Its more of a stylistic thing, but I’d like to hear that background ambiance/pad/sustained bell thing come in and out more. Have some parts with it pushed way farther back in the mix etc. Right now its a bit too droney for me. Like I said, thats purely subjective though.

@BudSpencertron this one is vibes. Some sparse hi hat patterns here and there and a few more incidental drums would really push this one along for me though.

@faultier loving this one as well. Those strings are great and I really like the beat switch up on the second half. I’d like the hi hats to feel bit sharper though, more like a knifey hit if that makes sense. The intro doesnt really work that well either for me; maybe bring those strings in for the intro, but very quietly? Idk. Im bad at intros.

Really great stuff overall from everyone this week!

easy Gs, thanks for the feedback. yea not one of my best tunes but im gunna work on it as soon as my ear heals up and hopefully get it sounding good!

gunna try drop some one ear listening feedback now!

@knobgoblin this is gritty! mad dark soundscapes, loving the momentum of the drums.

@cyclopian im feeling this one alot, the techy vibe is sick, sound choices are on point and its got the right amount of crud and grit! nice 1

@BudSpencertron yeeee this ones wavey, cant really fault anything with my one ear, nice production man!

@faultier love the softer subtler sounds in this one, like they keys and those really dusty sounding strings, wicked sample choices. like the direction this tunes goin in a lot! personally I’d have a sweeping filter on the reesey noise to add something a little more, but i cant complain man.

yo this ones a bit cheeky, I know its tuesday lol but I did have this track finished on sunday, just realised I was too late to submit it to faultier. Im posting the link here but if you guys arent happy with that I’ll remove it!

@knobgoblin
very nice build up so far
dig the dubby drums too very thoughtful lot of stuff happening
what would this be dark idm?
dunno if i dig the 1 56 bassline it fits but it adds a wierd dnb feel
hm yeah i think its ok but i would drop it instead of bring it back at 2 41 personally
enough happening there
yeah i agree with cyclopian overall some more edge to the drums would do the trick too though like cut some sharp eqs for the bassdrum and snares and hi hats maybe or like multiband sidechain compression or sth like that
but i really like the soundscape you build would work as an ambience piece too
i would love a bridge or how its called like the start and the end in the middle somewhere

@cyclopian
nice underwater sounds there
yeah dig it nice beat droping like the bassdrum placement
maybe it should stay a tad longer the deep bassdrum?
nice radioesc noises panning
hm i think the bassdrum needs tiny bit more power to really push this techno feel
or maybe layer it with some high end ?
but yeah drums work nice
maybe you could bring the pads little bit earlier back with filtering in or sth
hm personally for me its bit sad that you dont develope on those really nice melodic parts a bit more
but again maybe its the genre

@faultier
i like the intro kinda
maybe drop into the tune thought with the strings? liek pitched down or reversed or sth
i am not sure if the reece sits perfect yet maybe little bit less highs or sth and open it instead every now and than
beat is real nice too
dig this melody section
and second drop is beatiful
yeah i think fix the reece in the beginning tiny bit than you got a even nicer tune(maybe same reverb as one of the melodies)
the rest i cant fault really has a nice warm sound doesnt have to be too clean

@Sarbjeet_Jagdev
like this more than your first dig the melodies and sound choice so far
maybe you could bring the hi hats even later?
like on 0.43 with some filter and open it towards the drop
yeah dig the beat too
yeah this ones lightyears better than the first one
has a real nice melodic touch like old dubstep/idm
overall a bit quiet but its just a volume raising thing at the end sounds clean
bongos nice too
i am thinking about a break in the middle but it kinda works without it
i would maybe drop the sub for the end section
and those shooting stabs like dud dud maybe give them more power in the middle of the tune
but real nice tune definitly finish it remidns me of some of my older tunes

cyclopian you got any tip for which kind of percs would work best for the tune i thought basic hi hats might be the wrong approach. maybe foley? and drums in the intersections too?

here’s my feedback for last week:

@knobgoblin really nice piece, is it itb or do you use hardware? mixdown sounds a bit muddy but i think it fits the overall gritty vibes (also i’m on headphones so, any comments about mixdown is to be taken with a pinch of salt)

agree with cyclopian’s comment about the pad, it could be a tad louder/have more presence in the mix, also maybe you could cut the drums/bass for a while, break it down and maybe come back with a bang (like the section with the stabby sound around 4:56 could be your “2nd drop”), so as to make it less droney/samey

@cyclopian sick sound design as usual, really like how you build it up too, although i feel you could have had a few more incidentals/drum fills or stuff like that in the section between 1:46 - 2:48

@BudSpencertron are you cooking up a grime-themed ep oder? really digging your output lately. this one is quite minimal for you but it works, in that sort of “weightless” vibe, the small part with just the sub is real nice too. wouldnt change a thing or add more elements, just finish the arrangement imo, call it an instrumental if you have to :stuck_out_tongue:

@Sarbjeet_Jagdev these glitchy sounds in the intro  its a bit weird that your bass drops a few bars after your kick comes in, not sure if on purpose. mixdown sounds on point. the mala-esque synth coming in around the 2 min mark is lush too, i guess you could work on the arrangement a bit more, add a few fills, stuff like that, to keep it interesting throughout, otherwise, all the ingredients are here imo

also, words to the wise: if you’re sending your tuna as a private track on SC, send me the link without the https:// part otherwise i cannot copy-paste it into the thread when its embedded in your msg

eg: send it as soundcloud.com/artist-name/track-name/secret-token not https://soundcloud.com/artist-name/track-name/secret-token

;3 yeah i think for blanc not sure yet but yeah trying to get a good handful of tunes to pick from or take them all dunno haha
i changed the version tiny bit i think i send this new one and another idea in for tuna

faultier you got some tunes? i would one but if i am the only one i would work on it some more and send it in next week

me too

i have tunas from knobgoblin, cyclopian and myself, send yours in @hubb @BudSpencertron

thinking next week

but im gonna feedback the :hankey: outtayeh !

@knobgoblin woii, really liking this one, very unsettling in a good way. Some of the high pitched stuff that comes in is quite piercing though. I think stylistically this actually works for the vibe of the tune, but maybe just a tiny bit of eq’ing on those could take the pain level down a bit and keep it harsh and uncomfortable.

@BudSpencertron holy shit! both of those are amazing especially myday 6, wish they were both longer! Would love to get those from you to play on the radio. No real critique that I can think of.

@faultier really enjoying that mog remix, not a big fan of the male vocal sample in the intro though. I feel like it would be more powerful without that.

great fuckin sampling on the 2nd track, love the way the snare interacts with that lick

@hubb a little too minimal for my tastes tbh

1 BigUp

thanks man my brother wants some changes though :frowning:
but if you could wait a bit i would be happy to give them finished to you

1 BigUp

yeah, was unsure about the ambient-ish intro b2b vocal sample too, think i might scrap it

@knobgoblin seconding cyclopede’s comment, some sounds could do with some EQ-ing, mostly the metallic sounds towards the end. i was going to say it sounds a bit directionless/random but actually it seems you’re iterating on this tune? i like the progression and arrangement on the latest one on your soundcloud “modusjamus4” much better

@cyclopian nice one! very berlin lol, not sure if its just my headphones, but mixdown-wise i feel like the hats are just a tad to loud, can’t tell if you do later on because its a clip but i think you could use the klang-ish synth around 1:50 a lot more

@BudSpencertron myday: sick stuff man, really feeling this one. the only thing im not sure about is the bleepy melody, maybe the same melody with like reverbed strings-like stab or something? idk
norm: same as last week, liking your take on this grime sound

In regards to last weeks, yeah that track is 100% OTB. It’s generated and sequenced on the modular 1 track at a time and tracked with hardware FX on the way in. For doing almost zero mixing on it I thought it already sounded pretty decent, but some tracks survive to conversion to soundcloud better than others and for some reason this one sounded pretty rough on soundcloud. When (if) I finish it up I’ll definitely will do some better mixing and take your arrangement advice as well.

This week, I didn’t spend time so much writing a track as building a sequencer in reaktor. In the more recent iteration on soundcloud I tweaked the algorithm generating the beats and added a second melodic synth whose sequence is based off of and coming from the sequencer generating the acid bass sequence. The only thing not happening in real time is the reverse fx processing on the second melody. The sequencers are spitting data out to my modular for sound generation and processing of reaktor sounds and then I have 19 tracks running to my mixer with FX and I live dub them. It’s basically impossible to get the same thing twice but it’s great fun doing it this way. I’ve been super inspired by autechre lately…

Im going to make a seperate sc for rap stuff so im not going to upload dis on my other account but would like some thoughts in the meantime (and keep up with tunuh) so mediafire wav biz

maybe thats actualy better than sc for tuna like knobbygobby mentions ^ but yeah…

no its not m8, i need to quote your post to see the link ):
