Literally the hardest comp yet (for me)
I got nothing. I must have started and scrapped about 20 tunes already.
Today I added the breakbeat drums to my track and it was like adding sugar to candy bars.

Like last time, got a bunch of sound design done and a couple beats, nothing close to an arrangement tho. Kinda hyper-focusing on vocals tbh, need to knock that shit off.
Unlike last time I’m gonna remember to sort tuning before I go in tho.

I haven’t had the time/energy/motivation to work on this for a little while. I did make a beat for it, and got some processing ideas to throw on once I do. I’m hoping I can throw this together in another day or 2 tops

Using reaper and not having the grid on isn’t the issue, I just can’t get anything sounding good. Its either boring, flat, or weak
I made a 48 bar loop which would have been great for the polyrhythm comp but sounds nothing like burial lol
It was only 48 bars so the polyrhythms actually looped

Come at it different. Instead of using a 2 bar beat or whatever as the basic unit, try snippets of things to see how they loop… or fuck with round-robin sampler playback.
Interestingly enough I found that listening to Burial didn’t actually help for this one - better to rely on the memory of his sound than trying to actively parse recordings.

Lol yeah. But he’s doing the actual setup for RR which can be a bitch w all the mapping, depending on how many samples you’re loading, plus setting probability to taste… I’ll be honest, haven’t worked with it in a while but it’s do-able.
Grace and Short Circuit freeware sampler vsts can do it. I mostly use iOS lately where it’s easy to script this kinda stuff with Mozaic or chain up something in Drambo.
